Highland,

Chicken & Rice and our Tent Gathering are happening this weekend!

Each Saturday from 10:30am-1:00pm, we serve our streets a meal of Chicken & Rice, along with the Gospel. Volunteers are welcome to join us.  Chicken & Rice Ministries is our flagship work. It serves as the invitation to all in our streets to come and know Christ. If you would like to come and serve, please contact us.

This Sunday, I look forward to seeing everyone at the Tent Gathering. As we gather this Sunday for our Tent Gathering, I wanted to go over the schedule with you. This Sunday, our schedule is as follows:

  • 9am-10am: Coffee and Conversation. As you arrive, grab a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Enjoy having conversation with one another and the chance to be together. Also, if you’re willing, some will be setting up for the 10 am service. We welcome your help, if you’re able.

  • 10am-11am: Tent Gathering Service. At 10am, bring your camping chairs or blankets to make for yourself a place outside, underneath our tent. We will gather to worship as we set our eyes upon Jesus. Highland, I ask that we would be in prayer for the name of Jesus to be exalted in our corporate gathering; that those who wander, or are deceived throughout our streets, would hear that Jesus saves, and repent! We will conclude and dismiss following this service. So, breakfast will be offered but not lunch.

We are strongly encouraging social distancing and masks will be available for those who would feel most comfortable wearing one. If you have a mask, please bring one for yourself to use.  We ask that you stay home when you are sick. We also ask that you cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Also, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Finally, keeping your hands clean using sanitizer or by washing them with soap is vital. If you have a personal bottle of sanitizer, bring it and keep it on you for your personal use throughout gatherings.

Our Plans for October 17th & 18th.

Charissa & Dad-Merritt

Charissa & Dad-Merritt

Highland Fam,

Your love and support has brought us such comfort throughout this last month. Even in our sorrow over losing Dad-Merritt, we have rejoiced in you. Highland family, thank you for everything, just thank you! You have helped us feel better and have absorbed, in part, for us the shock and sting of our pain. You have allowed this battle-worn season of our lives to be a gracious and loving testament to the meaning of the word:“family.” Thank you, Highland Family, for remaining alongside us.

The Lord remains our rock and He is our Redeemer; we will continue to praise Him with every breath we are given. For His love is unfailing and everlasting. His enduring love surrounds us right now throughout this season of inexplicable despair. Therefore, we, Carrie and I, press on to know Him and to make Him known!

Highland, let us press on to know Him as one.

We are grateful for you,

Rob

Tony Harrison is at Rest.

Tony Harrison now resides in the arms of His Lord. In our short, yet meaningful time as close friends, Tony and I grew close to one another. I will forever cherish our time together. His desire to live and honor the Lord in his remaining days touched me to the core. I take great comfort in this picture above, as it was the day he publicly declared His love for Jesus.

Your Love Means So Much!

This is a sermon shared earlier this year by Dad-Merritt.

Highland,

We miss you this morning. Thank you so much for your love, support and understanding throughout this extremely difficult time. Also, please know that the messages and the meals you all have sent our way have really brought us so much comfort and have served to reassure us of our Lord’s unfailing love. Gosh, Highland, we are so grateful for you!!

Dad-Merritt (Carrie’s dad) continues to battle for his life; therefore we continue to battle in the spiritual place, through prayer and petition. Since we are unable to hold our Tent Gathering this morning, please allow me to share with you how I am praying through this uncertain time.

  1. “Happy is one who cares for the poor; the LORD will save him in a day of adversity. The LORD will keep him and preserve him; he will be blessed in the land. You will not give him over to the desire of his enemies. The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed; You will heal him on the bed where he lies” (Psalm 41:1-3).

Dad-Merritt is a generational force for the things of God. Dad-Merritt spends his days speaking up for and defending the vulnerable and the voiceless. He champions the unborn and the mother who is expecting a child, yet afraid. He has celebrated the work of Highland since her inception! He remains in our corner as we continue to advance the Kingdom of God. Highland, I am asking the Lord to sustain Dad-Merritt, because His Word says he will preserve the one who cares for the poor - and that is Dad-Merritt - even on his sickbed.

  2. “For You are the God of my refuge. Why have You rejected me? Why must I go about in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression? Send Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your holy mountain, to Your dwelling place” (Psalm 43:2-3).

I am asking the Lord to be our family’s refuge as we endure this great time of uncertainty. Even though our feelings, as a family, are unsure, hurt, even misleading, I am praying that we ALL take refuge in the hand of our Lord. It is hard to know how to feel and what to think, apart from God’s Word, as we go through this with Dad-Merritt. It is very disorienting emotionally! So, I am asking the Lord to lead our family through this battle with His light and His truth; that His light and His truth would surround us and hold us! The result is that, though we cannot know what’s next, that our family would draw nearer to His holy mountain, His dwelling place. That is our greatest good.

Highland, thank you for praying with us! I have never met a man more willing to submit to the authority of God’s Word. The fruit that pours forth from his life is Gospel-flavored fruit, fruit that remains.

I love you,

Rob

Tent Gathering Cancelled for This Sunday.

Highland,

Though our family is not feeling sick, we have been in direct contact with other family members that have tested positive for COVID-19. We are self-quarantining. Out of an abundance of caution, we will not hold our Tent Gathering this Sunday, October 4th. We will re-evaluate how to move forward in the near future. As of now, Chicken & Rice will continue as planned. However, if there are any changes, we will let you know as soon as possible through an updated blog-post.

I love you,

Rob

Our Plans for September 26th & 27th & Carrie's Father.

Highland Fam,

Carrie’s father has been in the hospital battling COVID for some time now. As of last night, he is just beginning to show signs of getting better! We are rejoicing as the Lord is taking care of him. Please continue to pray for Andy Merritt, as he starts recovering; also, please pray for our family. The Lord has used this terrible experience to draw us closer to Him and to one another. I am asking that much fruit pours forth out of this season.
